Saint Catherine Laboure -- Visionary of the Miraculous Medal

Introduction :

The Feast of Saint Catherine Laboure is on November 28th.

A most unforgettable impression of Paris is the Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal at 140 Rue Du Bac.

There you can gaze into the most beautiful blue eyes of a woman who kept a secret for forty six years : Catherine Laboure.

What was that secret ?? That she was the Nun to whom Mother Mary appeared, asking for a Medal to be struck and a statue to be sculpted.

The Fact that she rested her hands on the lap of the Blessed Mother during one of the many apparitions did not make her a saint; her sanctity consists of 50 years of faithful service as a "Daughter of Charity".

She personally worked no miracles, nor did she practice external heroic charity like Saint Martin De Porres.

She was not materially poor as were Bernadette Soubirous of Lourdes and the children of Fatima; rather she sprang from upper middle - class parents from among the meadows and vineyards of Burgundy, France.

Her Father was an educated man and an excellent farmer living in the village of  Fain - Les - Moutiers, not far from the city of Dijon in France.

Catherine Laboure was born on May 2, 1806.

The Medal :

God chose Catherine Laboure  to usher in the "Marian Age".

During, one of the many apparitions -- the Blessed Mother asked Catherine Laboure  to have a Medal struck.

On one side, of the Medal there should be a huge Letter M with a cross above it. The Letter should rest on a bar, beneath which should appear two hearts.

On the other side of the Medal, there should be an inscription " O Mary conceived without sin, Pray for us who have recourse to thee".

The first heart, should be encircled by a crown of thorns and the second should be pierced by a sword.

The Letter "M" is for Mary and Mother since she is indeed the Mother of God's people -- a people founded on the twelve apostles, signified by the twelve stars arranged around the side.

The two hearts are those of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary. God's message for Mary was one of suffering : A Sword will pierce your Heart -- just as the heart of her son would be pierced by a soldier's lance.

Catherine asked how she was to have the medal struck. Mother Mary replied that she was to go to her confessor : Father Jean Marie Aladel.

Father Aladel at first, did not believe Catherine; however after 2 years he finally went to the Archbishop of Paris who ordered 2,000 medals struck.

A Conversion wrought by the Miraculous Medal :

Alfonse Ratisbonne was a wealthy Jewish Lawyer and Banker of Strasbourg who hated Catholicism.

A Catholic Friend gave him a Miraculous Medal, daring him to wear it and say the Memorare.

Not long after, Ratisbonne went to the Church of Saint Andrea Della Fratte. At the front door; a menacing black dog met him, but vanished soon after.

Later, a brilliant light emanated from the Guardian Angel Chapel and he saw Mother Mary as on the Miraculous Medal.

He was converted right there and begged for immediate baptism.

This request was not immediately granted, however after some instruction in the faith, the Jesuits baptized him at the Church of the Gesu in Rome, Italy.

After spending some time with the Jesuits, he joined the Congregation of Our Lady of Zion for the evangelization of the Jews.

For thirty years, he labored in the Holy Land as an intrepid missionary to his own kind.

With Mary once More :

On the 31st of December 1876, Catherine Laboure passed into the arms of Mary.

Today, her beautiful remains lie fresh and serene; her eyes are a brilliant blue and her arms and legs are supple; she does not seem dead.

The Miraculous Medal, challenges us to look at life again and accept the protection and encouragement offered to us by the Mother of Jesus Christ.

Conclusion :

On May 28, 1933 Pope Pius, the 12th beatified Catherine Laboure.

Her incorrupt body is now encased in glass beneath the side altar at 140 Rue Du Bac, Paris beneath one of the places where Our Lady appeared to her.

Her Marvelous Blue Eyes, attract visitors from every corner of the globe.

Pope Paul, The Sixth had to say the following about the Miraculous Medal :

"The Miraculous Medal is no good -luck charm. It is a reminder that Our Lady is a sure hope for those troubled in mind as they often are; divided in heart, and troubled about life itself.

Saint Martin of Tours -- A Soldier of Jesus Christ

Introduction :

He was not just another saint, he was one of the most outstanding saints in the great history of the early "Catholic Church", specially in the Church in France.

The Feast of Saint Martin of Tours is on the 11th of November that is precisely today. He was a "Roman Soldier" before he became an "Eloquent Preacher" of Christ and his Gospel.

Saint Martin of Tours was called the "Apostle of the Gauls" because of his efforts to evangelize and organize the Church in that region. He lived from 317 A.D. - 397 A.D.

Because of his wisdom and his zeal he was held up as a "model" for the entire "Gallic Region" of France.

Although, he was born a Roman in what is today "Hungary" then called "Pannonia" by the Romans; he is considered predominantly a French Saint -- A bit like Saint Francis of Assisi for Italy.

For this reason, the name Martin is very common in many European Countries.

His cult spread swiftly throughout France and Italy too, where many Churches were dedicated to him.

This phenomenon is observed also in Spain, England, Holland, and of course in Hungary as well.

In Germany, he is honoured in one of the most beautiful "Romanesque" Churches -- The Great Church of Saint Martin at Cologne.

Conclusion :

The Poet Fortunatus was right when he wrote : "Where Christ is known, Martin is honoured".

SAINT JUDE THADDEUS - PATRON OF DESPERATE CASES

Today The 28th of October, is the Feast of Saint Jude Thaddeus -- Help of the Hopeless.

By reason, of the fearful treason of Judas Iscariot against Our Saviour, the name of Jude fell in such disrepute that even the Holy Apostle Jude Thaddeus suffered thereby.

It seems Our Lord Jesus Christ, wishes to repair the honour of the Apostle by giving aid to those in extreme distress if they invoke his aid. Jude Thaddeus was a near relative of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary.

This glorious Apostle, was most zealous in spreading the Gospel in countries such as Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Persia, and Ancient Armenia.

He converted a multitude of souls and finished his career by a heroic death.

Our Lord Jesus Christ himself, directed Saint Bridget to turn with great confidence to Saint Jude, "In accordance with his surname -- Thaddeus which means amiable, loving said Jesus Christ, "He will show himself most willing to give help".

It is related that this Apostle, once appeared to a devout client and expressed his regret that so few Christians think of invoking his aid and protection.

BRINGING EX-CATHOLICS BACK TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

Introduction :

It is my objective and endeavour to bring Ex-Catholics back to the Catholic Church in 2015 as well as in 2016. I intend to achieve this through "Catholic Classics".

What I mean is this -- I want Catholics who have left the Catholic Church to read awesome and amazing "Catholic Books" posted on my Catholic Blog.

Many Catholics in India specially in "Metro Cities" have left the Catholic Church and have joined "Non - Denominational Churches".

Most of them are unaware of  "Catholic Classics" which encompass and explain the beautiful Catholic Faith.

In Cities like Mumbai in Maharashtra, Panjim and Margao in Goa, Bangalore in Karnataka, and Chennai in Tamil Nadu Catholics have left the Church for a variety of reasons; mostly for monetary reasons but some have also left because of animosity with Priests, or Nuns, or Bishops.

Let me tell you my personal story with regard to "Catholic Classics" and how they changed my life forever.

In Mid- 2012, 3 years back, I was quite angry with Catholic Priests because of negative experiences I had with them while growing up in Mumbai.

In the latter half of 2012, while surfing the "Net" for Catholic Websites I came across a beautiful, outstanding, and extra-ordinary Catholic Website called "E-Catholic 2000"-- "Catholics for the Third Millenium".

Once, I entered this amazing website I happened to stumble across four Catholic Classics--

1) Calvary and the Mass.

2) True Devotion to Mary.

3)  Secret of the Rosary.

4) Secret of Mary.

After reading these 4 Catholic Classics over a number of months - I lost all animosity I may have had against Catholic Priests in Mumbai or anywhere else.

I promise you that when you read these 4 books, you will be changed forever and will fall in love with the Catholic - Christian Faith instantly as I did.

These are 4 Books, that positively changes lives and souls.

Read them and you will never be sorry that you visited my "Catholic Blog" accidentally or purposely.

These "Catholic Classics" proudly promote Jesus Christ as the "Centre of our Faith".

The Catholic Church is more than 2000 years old. Let us never forget that.

These Catholic Classics present to us the vibrant Catholic Faith as it has been through the centuries.

Conclusion :

No one will ever regret reading "Catholic Books" @ my blog. These Catholic Books help to build one up in the faith and help to strengthen one about the truths of the Catholic Faith.

I strongly recommend 4 Catholic Classics to Catholics who have left the Church and who might visit my Catholic Blog in the future.

1) Calvary and the Mass

Happy and Holy Reading.

Note : If I am a Catholic Today it is only because of "'E-CATHOLIC 2000 -CATHOLICS FOR THE THIRD MILLENIUM". They strengthened me in the Catholic Faith like no tomorrow.

A Christopher

First of all, I would like to say that a "Christopher" is a "Bearer of Christ".

Here is what Catherine De Heuck has to say about a "Catholic Priest".

1. A Priest is a Lover of God.

2. A Priest is a Lover of Souls.

3. A Priest is a Holy Man because he walks before the Face of the all Holy.

4. A Priest understands all things.

5. A Priest forgives all things.

6. A Priest encompasses all things. The Heart of a Priest like Christ's; is pierced with the lance of love.

7. The Heart of a Priest is open, like Christ's, for the whole world to walk through. The Heart of a Priest is a vessel of compassion. The Heart of a Priest is a chalice of love.

8. A Priest is a man whose goal is to be another Christ.

9.  A Priest is a man who lives to serve. A Priest is a man who has crucified himself, so that he too may be lifted up and draw all things to Christ.

10.  A Priest is a man in love with God.

11. A Priest is the gift of God to man, and of man to God.

12. A Priest is a symbol of the Word made flesh.

13. A Priest is the sword of "God's Justice".

14. A Priest is the hand of God's Mercy.

15. A Priest is the reflection of God's Love.

He teaches God to us. He brings God to us. He represents God to us.

That is what, a Priest must be - that is what a Priest must bring to us of the Lay Apostolate !!

That, and nothing more .............................. Amen.
